(NZ) FAT FREDDY'S DROP: March 2006.

Future Classic, The Drop & Triple J‚s Roots'n'All presents
Fat Freddy's Drop Australian Tour 2006
Having won the hearts of Australian audiences last year in their promptly sold out national tour, Fat Freddy's Drop return to Oz to deliver another live installment of their hypnotic voodoo dub and future soul grooves.
Since their last visit the Freddys have continued to add jewels to their crown with their debut album Based On A True Story now reaching 5 x platinum status in NZ where it has sailed back up to number one in the charts.
Indeed the dream of world domination for the seven headed soul monster is fast becoming a reality. In December Fitchie and the bro's traveled to London to pick up Worldwide Album Of The Year at the Radio 1 Gilles Peterson Worldwide Music Awards 2005 as voted by international fans that tune in to the tastemaker's show on the BBC.
But as those who have seen them in the flesh will know, this is first and foremost a live band and it is on stage that the magic truly happens. No two Freddy's gigs are the same as the midnight marauders improvise and jam each song into mystic supernovas of future funk, fakes and freaky sidesteps.

Ladies and Gentleman, Brothers and Sisters!
Direct from Brooklyn U.S.A, We are very proud to introduce to Australia, the baaaddest soul sister on the circuit!!!!
SHARON JONES, with her mighty band, the world famous DAP-KINGS.
With a sound that makes you feel the rumble and grumble of thick funk and souring soul, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings‚, are the original and legitimate heavy-hitters. Whilst earning the title "Queen of Funk", Sharon has been giving people across the globe a sense of what real music tasted like back in the day. When asked what makes great music the seasoned soul singer Sharon replied "You‚ve got to feeeel it! In your bones, your heart, in everything and everywhere!" and if you‚ve ever seen and heard Sharon and the Dap Kings live you know that you can‚t help feeling their music deep in your funky soul.
Originally from Augusta, Georgia (the same town that birthed the godfather of Soul himself: James Brown), Sharon learnt to use her incredible vocal talents in her local church, singing gospel tunes with her powerful, soulful voice.
Fast forward to 2002 and Sharon has released her first full-length album, the successful Dap Dippin‚ which served to solidify her reputation as Soul Sister # 1. Now after several years of non-stop worldwide touring and recording with other notable artists such as Greyboy, Sharon Jones and her mighty Dap-Kings have recorded their finest full-length effort to date, Naturally, and as Sharon herself says, "If you cant feel the music on this album, then you must be a dead ass!".
Joining Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings‚ will be Melbourne's Cookin On 3 Burners‚ who are playing in Sydney for the first time. The ultra hip 3 piece, featuring Lance Ferguson from The Bamboos, blew up 2005 with their 12" Cressy St Breakdown for oz imprint Knowfoowl, and have since been signed for a new studio album with the ever-respected UK label Freestyle. Watch out for their hammond driven deep instrumental funk.

COLD CHICKEN: 11th March, 2006

Our mates are doing a night in March so I whipped up a quick flyer to put on this page.
Live local hip hop & a bunch of neer do well deejays acting like spakfilla for the night. We can't vouch for them because we missed their previous party, but they must've made a packet or they are just a bunch of foolhardy nincompoops who know not better. We are going for the latter. In fact, lets just make up a 3rd reason. Its an extravagent cover for a government overthrow meeting. Yes yes yes. that's it. I knew it. I knew it. Couldn't fool me. Just look at the right wing bastards with their aliases. Shame on them. Shame on me.
We'd hate to think that the new kids on the block have found the fountain for success. Remember, we all do it for the love & therefore anyone who makes mad coin is obviously a hater.
Yeah yeah. My logo title thingymajig looks nothing like the Cold Chillin' logo. But then you don't look like Brad Pitt either, so big raspberry to you matey.
Yo Yo a Go Go

Venue & date still to be determined
An experiment in that we've gathered up a crew of hip hop originated deejays for a night of ninja star, er sorry, vinyl throwing shenanigans. We'll be throwing down slabs of wax onto the platter for an evening of some rather stupid, yet sophisticated hijinks. Naturally we'll strive to keep the dancefloor like super duper busy while we dig through our crates to find the best second hand slices of lost loves for you to embrace.
Okay, I tell a porkie. It won't just be cheap big band music & über rare Polka EPs, it'll be anything that conjours up the 60s & early 70s. Spy themes, tiki party freak-outs, barking mad bongo orchestras, motorcycle riding psych pop, cheesy euro-latin, etc... Just a truckload of maligned music that will cause a spine to wobble. All freaked by some frisbee loving turnips.
